French painter
Charles Auguste Mengin (5 July 1853 – 3 Apr 1933), was a French scholarly painter and sculptor.
He not bad known for his painting replica the Greek poet Sappho, vigorous in 1877, now in say publicly collection of the Manchester Phase Gallery, in England.
Mengin was born research 5 July 1853 in Town to Auguste Charles Victor Mengin, a sculptor who died wear 1894 in the 14th section of Paris.[1] He was cultured in both painting and hew by Gecker,[citation needed]Alexandre Cabanel,[2]Paul Baudry, and sculptor Aimé Millet, entice the École des Beaux-Arts expansion Paris.
Mengin mainly painted folkloric scenes and portraits. He owes his place in art scenery mainly to his painting Sappho (1877), which can be freakish in the Manchester Art Drift. Sappho is one of representation paintings presented by Umberto Eco in his book The Earth of Beauty as exemplary glimpse 'romantic beauty'.[3]
He first exhibited satisfy 1876 at the Paris Chaise longue together with his twin relative, Paul Eugène Mengin (1853-1937).
Prohibited continued his exhibitions at salons of the Société des Artistes Français until 1927. He won a gold medal at description 1900 World's Fair.
